I’m very novice when It comes to stereo equipment so your help is appreciated. I’m looking at adding an amp on my boat to run 4 speakers. I currently have a Sony Xplode head unit pushing 2 Kenwood 6 x 9 and 2 Pioneer 5 ¼. I have a separate Fosgate amp and sub but need an amp for the highs. I found a shop that will sell me a Rockford Fosgate Prime R300.4 for $145 or an Alpine Vpower MRP F300 for $150. I also found an ad in the Penny saver but it doesn’t seem very reputable a Kenwood 1,500 amp for $60 plus installation. I called the store and I was told installation would be $80 and the amp is used. Which amp do you recommend?

i dont recommend buying used equip from a penny saver unless u really trust the shop/company. as far as ur other 2 choices, ive been a fan of fosgates amps. they draw a lot of current but they put out what they say. u will never kno for sure what amp is the best for u until u listen to speakers powered by both amps.

Where you purchase a piece of equipment from is going to be a very improtant decision.
Remember that if you buy from a stereo shop you'll have the manufactuer's support as well as local support.

i would ask the shop to bench test the amp in front of you so you know it works before they install it. i also assume their install price does not include a boat.

Since Brian is saying that the Fosgate amp draws a lot of current, can that be a problem on a boat. The store from the pennysaver quoted me $80 install for the boat. I've gone to the store from the Pennysaver and it's seems kinda shaddy. Would the fosgate amp be enough power or do you guys recommend i try saving some more money and getting a better amp, either different brand or more watts.

i've used several Fosgate amps on boats. they no more or less efficient than other similar types of Class AB amps - typically 60%. your most efficient would be new new Class D or hybrid designs by Alpine or JL. but those cost a lot more money.
the amp only draws as much current as you want based on volume. high current draw is always a concern on a boat. you should keep a volt meter in sight, and monitor the voltage at all times.
