I am lost on what battery to buy. A diehard platinum battery or an optima battery. I have heard good and bad about both and need the views of guys also into car audio also. I am running a 800 watt Kenwood 5 Channel, 500 watt JL mono, P2 12's, 6 x 9's, 4 x 6's, and 4 inch speakers. I also have a 2 fared cap. I have LED foglights and Ultra Star headlights.

some people have good luck with Optima (i am one of them), some do not.

DieHard has a better warranty (IIRC) and one that you can easily cash in on. I'm not sure what Optima does now.

I would base that decision on the warranty you will receive (12mo. replacement, 3 years pro-rated preferably). My RedTop has about 6 years on it now.

What are you going to use it for? Just starting the car... use the Die Hard.

I am trying to keep my alternator belt from whinning and my engine and lights from going weak when i decide to turn my system up. My cap reads 12.9 volts all the time now and my alternator belt will whin every time the bass hits.

a new battery may not solve your problems, but it's a good idea if your existing battery is older or doesn't get a regular charge.

also, read up on the Big 3 and upgrade your grounding.

If your cap reads 12.9v with no accessories and the engine at idle or above, charging system / mechanical would be the first place to look.
A whining belt is usually an indiacation the belt is either worn or not tensioned properly. It will tend to whine when rpms increase or the alternator puts a greater load on it causing it to slip. With slippage, the alternator will not produce a normal 13.5-14.5v.

If belt is not the problem, the alternator may be weak. Most auto parts stores will check for no cost.

Also check for loose / corroded connections which may reduce voltage to system and as mentioned, consider the BIG 3.

BTW, great job laying out your system and symptoms! This helps us see an underlying problem that is much different than which is a better battery.

In answer to your question, if it comes to replacement; I would go with a high quality standard battery for general use. Consider the optima if you were going to have a dedicated battery for your amps or extended play time with engine off.
