I purchased a wiring harness from walmart to install my new car stereo but when I hooked it up there was no sound coming from speakers. I noticed the car side of the harness had one area with 3 wires going into it but the new harness had no prongs to connect these 3 wires. Do I have an amp the speakers are hooked to that needs switched power from the stereo i.e. the blue auto antennae wire if so which of the 3 wires do I need to connect to? Please help.

not only do you need to power the amp, you need to give it a signal from the RCA outputs of the head unit, or with a high/low level adapter.

Thank you for the heads up guys. I don't have onstar in my tahoe it had a stock cd player installed. I guess it is taking the truck to a shop to get it installed.

Wire up the harness like normal but you need to connect the blue/white amp turn on on the new radio to the blue wire on the aftermarket harness.
Rookie mistake #1
Happens so often that I made a stickie.

Make that two of us that needed that tip for the newbies. Not to hijack the thread, but now I've got a different issue. I have an XM-ready JVC head unit that won't store XM presets after I turn off the ignition. I have constant 12V wired as described above. Is there something different about how the Tahoe 12V source works? Do I need to run a separate wire from the fuse box? Thanks.

does it save radio presets and track position for CD's?

is the XM adapter powered from ignition or constant?
