Hey Guys!
I am looking at upgrading the system in my boat [24ft Baja] over the winter. I have a system in the boat now that consists of a single 10" bazooka sub mounted in the front of the cabin, and four 8" 2 way component speakers mounted in the cockpit, they are driven by 2 Bazooka amps, 1 ELA100.2 and 1 ELA 60.4
I am planning to upgrade to the following:
four 8" Polk Audio Marine subs mounted under the back seat area of the boat.
3 sets of 6.5 Polk Audio Component speakers in the cockpit [seperate mid bass woofer and tweeter]
1 set of 6.5 Polk Audio components in the cabin
1 10" Polk Audio Marine sub mounted between the components in the cabin.
I had planned on using JL audio subs [W7's] but, they aren't really suited for Marine use, so, I went with Polk Audio subs instead, which I have had pretty good luck with in the past [cheaper too!] I am still planning on using JL Audio amps though.
Will a single 1000/1 drive all four 8" subs AND the 10" sub in the cabin? the 8" subs are rated at 180 watts/rms and 360 Peak and the 10" is rated at 350W rms and 700W peak. Or would it be better to use a single 500/1 to drive the front [10"] sub and just use the 1000/1 to drive the 8"s? JL also make a new style 750/1, but, I dont think it would be big enough to drive all the subs?
The components I had planned on driving with a single JL 600/4.
Any thoughts? I welcome ALL input and suggestions!, and THANKS! in advance to all members!
Michael

Are you planning on having the flexibility to turn off the 8" subs and leave the 10" sub playing or vice versa? Do you want to be able to switch off the cabin speakers when nobody is down there? How flexible do you really want things?

Hello Again
No, I had planned on having the system run "all the time", I dont need to have the ability to shut off certain speakers/subs.
Thanks! Michael

That makes it a lot easier then. Just do the simple math to make sure the impedance of the speakers doesn't end up too low for the amp and that there is enough power divided up among the speakers and you should be fine.

i recommend letting the cabin be a "quiet" place with the flip of a switch. you never know when someone won't feel like loud music, or won't be feeling well.
you should try to build in some flexibility now.

Great Idea regards being able to shut off the cabin, I dont think I have the skill [or ambition, lol] to switch off individual speakers, but, its a great idea, I had never even THOUGHT of using the "remote turn on" wire to isolate the cabin speakers/sub, GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!
