I noticed that when i fade the sound to the front speakers it doesn't matter if the balance is to the right or left, both speakers are working. When i fade to the rear the balance works when i move it from right to left. Is that a wiring issue at the head unit? How do you recommend i fix that? I'm very much a beginner at the stereo stuff.
Thanks

I have a Sony xplode pushing 2 5 1/4 in the front and 2 6x9 in the rear. I have an amp pushing a sub but no amp on the other speakers.

it's probably a wiring issue. pull the head unit out and redo the wiring at the HU.

Thanks, I will try the wiring scenario you gave me. Can the problem i'm having cause my stereo to shut off at higher volumes?

well, in your case you may have two speakers wired incorrectly, like to one channel - that would cause a low impedance problem and cause the unit to shut off.
