Hi

I want to use a car radio in a home as an ambiance sound system, Has anyone seen a bracket to hold a car radio in a wall? I have ample 12V power and all I need is an antenna signal.
Thx

Guy

i would think that any standard radio cage would be able to secure to the wall. you might need to do some modification to the cage, but in the end you wouldn't see it.

however, you still want back support from a shelf or radio strap. and a standard radio is more than 3.5" deep so fitting that inside a standard wall cavity might be difficult. you could make a wood trim ring that not only gives you more depth, but also secures the radio cage.

pictures of your intended application would help.

The radio would be setup in the kitchen with the speakers in the dinning room. I would like to use the remote while in the dining room. Linking back to my other post about infrared, I would just extend the infrared receiver with a wire to the dining room.

I am looking at Sony car radios and they have a bracket that allows the radio to slide into. I went to Best Buy and looked that their demo radios that are on display. These radios have a wooden plate around them that holds the radio quite well. I was thinking of having an aluminum plate cut out with the exact ISO DIN specs size and have it anodized. Having a support in the back of the radio is a good idea.

As far as depth is concerned, no problems, wall space will be able to hold the radio and dissipate ample heat.

Do you know of a bracket that would facilitate my setup that I could screw into a wooden frame of 2 X 4.

any car radio will come with the mounting sleeve, not just Sony.

some of the marine radios have a separate remote control input, typically a wired remote that is separate. some may have IR in that also.

you'll have to fabricate a bracket for your needs. car radios aren't designed for home use. a standard multi-zone receiver would do what you want with ease (but would take up more space). Onkyo offered multi-zone in most of their receivers for the past 20 years.

I will put more that one radio in the house. This will offer me more versatility and car radios are not that expensive. I will look at marine radios, I definitely need a wireless remote.
What do you think about display at Best Buy and how it is built?

Displays are very basic cabinetry. Now the internals all depend on what you want to do.
