Hiya guys,

I am purely into SQ. I have the opportunity of getting a Nak. CD-40, which is VERY RARE here, and don't want to miss out on a good deal. The price isn't TOO important, but I would like to know what HU's would give me the same or similar quality nowadays from:

1. Alpine
2. Clarion
3. Pioneer
4. Kenwood

I just need models of HU's which would be in the same SQ league as that Nak, with similar specs (must at least have 3 outs and 4V output). Once I have the model #'s I can check what prices I can get in compared to the Nak and take it from there. I can't ask the dealers here how to compare because Nak is so rare that many wont know TOO much about them.

Thanks!

PS. Looks aren't really important to me - they are 2nd to SQ, so if it looks amazing its an extra bonus, and also MP3 playback is not needed, but if its there, why not Pretty much I am looking for a pure SQ CD receiver - frills are all secondary to my decision.

I would say if SQ is your game, then Eclipse is the name. They will compare with Nak qality and also they don't have all the bells and whistles like most decks. So it is kind of like Nak in that regard as well, although a little more flashy. A straight to the point deck is what Eclipse, Nak, Denon, and McIntosh are all about.

Nak's do sound good and the 45z even sounds much better than the 40z, but we've experienced a high rate of failure over the last year. Problems include failure to properly eject CD, CD's getting stuck in them, and playback issues. Combine that with the fact that they recently filed for chapter 11 I wouldn't recommend one to anyone. There are all kinds of good decks out there, but I think the new Alpine CDA-7995 is a great sounding deck. It has 4v output, outboard DC-DC converter, Monster Cable RCA's and lots of other features that make it sound great. Every one of my customers have been blown away by this deck. Combine that with the fact that it plays mp3's, looks great, and has Alpines advanced time correction features and I think you've got the best deck on the market for $500ish.

I would agree...I had the CD45z for a while with just the same symptons. Won't eject fully, very finicky about CD playback. Other than that, a good deck, but just enough quirks to make me ditch it. The Eclipse has been a perfect performer
