I am looking at installing a set of 6.5 Component speakers from Polk Audio, they are rated at 2.7 Ohms Impedence, if I wire them in a "2 ohm" configuration? what would the power rating be? I am using an amp that is rated for 90W RMS at 4 ohm, or 125W at 2 ohm
If I wire them in a 2 ohm configuration what would the rating be?, Thanks for the help!

out of curiosity, what is the model number of this component set you're asking about?

Hey There
I just copied this from the "Marine" section where I also posted, but, haven't had any replies yet, Thanks! for the help!
Hey Guys!
Here is a list of stuff I am considering for my 24ft Baja Outlaw, I have measured numerous times and there is NO way to fit 10" subs, so, I have to go with 8's, let me know what you think, ALL input is appreciated!
I am gonna run 4 sets of Polk Audio 6.5 Components, 1 set in the cabin, and 3 sets in the cockpit part number MM6501UM they are rated at 125W RMS and 250 Peak
I am gonna run one 10" sub in the cabin, the part number is MM1040DVC its a dual voice coil sub, its rated at 350W RMS and I think the peak is 700
I am gonna run four 8" subs under the back seat, the part number is MM840DVC, its a dual voice coil sub, thats rated at 180W Rms and 360W Peak.
I had planned on driving the sub in the cabin [10"] and 2 sets of components with a single five channel Polk amp part number PAA 11000.5 I had planned on using 4 channels at 2 ohms [125W X 4] to drive the 4 Component speakers and the single subwoofer channel [which is stable to 1 ohm] which would be 600W [or 300W at 2 ohms]
I was planning on driving the other 2 sets of component speakers with a single Polk Audio PA500.4 which is 125RMS X 4.
I had planned on driving the four 8" subs with a single PA1200.1 which is a mono channel amp that is rated at 1200W at 1 Ohm, or 800W at 2 ohm [continous power]
I have a 250AMP circuit breaker and 1/0 gauge wire for the power and ground wires, I have a seperate start battery, and 2 deep cycle Optima batteries for the stereo, I have also stepped up to a 140 amp alternator. The boat has a 12AMP [2 stage] battery charger that I leave plugged in when the boat is on the trailer, and when its in the water at my dock.

ok -
what is your question?
Polk's site lists the 6501UM as 4 ohm. all of your plans seem fine, outstanding actually.
your plan to use the 5 channel to run two comp sets and a sub is perfect. it also gives you easy control - you can kill the remote turn-on power to the amp to shut off the system in the cabin.
you would wire the four MM840DVC subs for 2 ohm mono to the PA1200.1.
I'm not sure what you have seen that states the MM6501UM are 2.7ohm. i don't see any reason why you couldn't run all for components off of the single amp - other than losing separate control. It's nice having separate control since your cabin speakers don't need to be as loud as the deck or cockpit.
the last cabin cruiser I did had a combination of speakers in the cabin, at the driver, and in the rear. i installed switches on each of the speaker outputs so that they could decide what they wanted to listen to, and those switches also allowed them to run speakers off of the head unit for low power listening when the boat was off.

Hey Again!
Thats a GREAT! idea! I never even thought about using the remote "turn on" wire to isolate the cabin speakers/subs, Brilliant! I dont think it would be difficult either? as I have several spare "accesory" switches on my dash and could use one for a remote turn on. I also plan on putting some LED "strips" near the amps as well, the Polk amps come with a 12V outlet that you can wire a fan or light bar directly to.
My Impedance question referred to the Polk Component speakers, when I downloaed the PDF manual it listed there "nominal impedance" at 2.7 ohms? I wasn't sure what "nominal impedance" actually meant? I was curious as to if I wired them in a "2 Ohm" configuration and the lowest impedance the speakers would accept would be 2.7 Ohm it would affect the output power of the amplifier. Glad to hear I can wire it the way I planned and have it work OK.
The Install will take place over the winter, the amps I have now, and I will be "stockpiling" parts over the winter to do the install first thing in the Spring [I am in Ontario, Canda] and the boat is away for the winter.
THANKS! for the great idea's and help, and feel free to offer comments or furthur advice, its appreciated!
As soon as I have pics I will post them, right now the boat has four 8" 2 ways and a single bazooka 10" sub, driven by 2 Bazooka amps, needless to say, I should notice a BIG difference in sound and sound quality!
