I have been looking at car radios and was wondering if anyone had seen a radio with an external infrared led?

interesting question. i want to say yes, but i have no idea how long ago it was, which doesn't really help.
i assume you're looking to hide the HU out of plain sight, like a glove box?
you could look into an infrared repeater, could be run of 12VDC. you can probably DIY one for under $20 or buy the necessary components for around $100.

ah, given your other post, you want to put a car HU in your house.
then the infrared repeater system is even easier since they are designed for home use anyway.
