Sound like you blown the voice coils. Try pushing the sub to see if the cone is stiff and to see if you hear a scraping sound. How are your setting on the amp? Do you have the HU set to flat or using any bass boost?

first, inspect your power wiring and fusing. you're looking for any power or ground wiring that could have shorted out or melted. Use a DMM to verify voltage at the amp battery and ground terminals.

next, disconnect the sub from the amp. use a DMM to measure the resistance across each coil.

inspect the amp, make sure the plastic around the wire terminals isn't melted.

that very well may be it. when running that much power, i recommend NOT using the terminal cups as they have a lot of resistance in them naturally. drill holes in the box to fish the wires through and then use silicone to seal the hole. when running that much power it is best to just have wires running straight from the outputs to the coils.

How was the wire connected to the terminal? I would suggest some high current binging post.

ok so run the wire straight from the amp to the sub? and the other option is to run the wires from the sub to a bolts and the wires from the amp to those same bolts? what kind of bolts? carriage bolts? and do they have to be zinc plated or stainless steel? thanks everyone for ur help by the way!

i would just run straight from the outputs to the coils. the less connections involved the better, especially when dealing with that much power.

i have my subs wired with tsunami 8awg straight from my subs to the amp. it's really easy to do. just drill a hole just big enough to fit the wire through. make sure to test the length to make sure it's long enough and then silicone around the opening from the inside of the box to seal it.

Check the out put of the amplifier (with a test speaker or D M Meter)
Did you get a reading from the speaker wires at the amp going to the sub?
If your terminal cup started to melt: it probably was resistant heat due to a poor/loose connection
The smell is a sign of something more serious than a loose connection
Amp or sub

^i would have to say that the smell was probably the cup melting.
