Well I bought this truck promising myself I would never modify it and use it strictly for haulin' my toys with. Well my friends new better and sure enough....I couldn't leave well enough alone. At this point I have put a 4/7 drop on it and added some 22" KMC wheels with low profile rubber. I hate the way it rides and I will be baggin' it in the near future.
So yesterday I decided to gut the truck. I want to deaden the floor and kill the road noise. The carpet also needs replacing from the previous owner being a slob. Had everything out and the metal cleaned in about 2 hours. Not too shabby.
So I bought 3 rolls of RAAMAT BXT and a few yards of ensolite and got to work. I have used 1 roll (62 square feet) on the two rear doors. Two layers went on the outside panel and one layer on the inside panel. I have huge holes in my doors and the "patch panels" are a real pain to make but coming out ok for my first time. The patch panel is made from perforated aluminum and I put the deadener on both sides before screwing it down.
So my plan on the doors is to add a layer of ensolite to the outer door panel before I put on the interior panel. I will also put in some ensolite where the back of the speaker sits on the outer door panel. I am going to glass in some speaker pods to the interior panel for the rear components. I have put a layer of raamat bxt to the interior panel as well. Does the door need anything more than this to kill the road noise?
So I had some time off and put some raamat on the floor and back wall. Having just finished I am not happy with the results. Pretty much sounds the same as before the BTX was applied. I'm not seeing it as a product issue so I am going to have to do some research as to how to deaden the noise. Nevertheless here is where I stand. Yes I only have one layer on (60 square feet), but I think if I put three or 4 layers on it would still sound the same and do little to get rid of road noise. Pretty sure it will kill the resonance but I think I need a thicker rubber like matting or even insulation of some kind to kill the road noise. Suggestions?

The mat deadener will eliminate resonance but do very little in combating road/exhaust noise. To battle this, MLV(mass loaded vinyl) with a decoupling layer of foam(preferably thicker than Ensolite)is needed.
You can go the diy route or buy products such as Second Skin's Luxury Liner. Search the forums. They are loaded with examples. Forum member and world class competitor Andy Jones has a great thread on this forum about his experience with Second Skin products.
I like your work. Great attention to detail.

Added two layers of ensolite which makes a huge difference in keeping the road noise at bay. Spend your time here and you won't be disappointed. I may add a third layer while waiting on the mass loaded vinyl. Also got to work on the rear door panels. I am using rear fill because I carry lots of friends who might like to enjoy some tunes as well. 75 watts RMS going to each rear side.
Ensolite did well for my vehicle...I'm only halfway done and the little car is more quiet than an expensive luxury car.
I still need to do my trunk, back doors, and the roof. That's three more bulk packs and more ensolite! WOOT!
