I don't know much about stereo stuff so I need some help. I currently have an audiobahn A4004T which is a 4 channel running 2 subs in my Expedition and it sounds fine. I also have a boat but i'm having problems with my stereo system on that. I currently have a Sony xplode head unit pushing 2 6x9 and 2 5 1/4. I have a fosgate amp pushing a punch sub. When I turn the volume up the entire stereo on my boat shuts of unless I have the lows on the head unit at 0 than I can turn the volume up but than I get no base out of the sub. I try to turn the gain up on the amp for the sub but then the amp shuts off. I was thinking of maybe taking the 4 channel amp out of my car and putting in my boat to push the highs and getting a 2 channel amp to push the subs in my car. Or should i leave the amp in my car and get another 4 channel amp for the boat. I know I wrote a lot and it might be a little confusing but any help would be appreciated. If you agree with me let me know what kind of amp you suggest. I've seen power acoustics for a good price but I don't if these are good. I don't have much money to spend.

how much do you have to spend on an amp?
honestly, running two subs with a four channel is not optimum at all. what you should do is run the highs on your boat with the front channels of the 4 channel, and use the rear channels to run a four ohm sub bridged.
then get a mono amp for the subs in the car.

i have about 150 to 200 bucks for an amp. I currently have an amp for the sub on the boat. I don't know the model number of that amp but i bought it from best buy and it was a package with the sub. A friend of mine that helped me install the system told me that amp is for the sub. This same friend installed the amp in my car and he says he bridged the amp. Is there a way for me to tell if it's bridged, how should it be wired?

i would suspect your problem is related to one of two things
1. voltage drop 2. short in the wiring
check those first. monitor the voltage at the amp/hu when they shut off. what is the voltage before and after they shut off?
check all your wiring and connections. make sure no bare copper is visible at the amp or speaker/subs

I will be the 1st to admit that I know nothing about wiring or electronics so in regards to monitoring the voltage I wouldn't know how to do that. I was planning on having the place I purchased the amp from install the amp and check all the wiring for me. I wish I was savvy like most of the people on this forum because it appears there are many knowledgeable people here but unfortunately I don't know electronics.

checking voltage is a very simple task that anyone can do.
the first step is to get a volt meter. you can get one at RadioShack or a local autoparts store for around $10 that will do the trick. Get the digital ones, they are easier to read.
it comes with red and black leads. red is positive, black is negative. just turn the dial on the meter to DCV and put red lead on positive battery terminal and black lead on negative battery terminal. the battery voltage can then be read.

I tried using a volt meter before at the battery and I believe it was showing 12 or 13. Somebody else told me that I should check the voltage throughout the whole wiring system and that stumped me.

yes, checking the voltage at the amp and at the head unit is the same process. red to positive, black to ground. you may have a ground problem somewhere else.
did you run new power and ground wires to the amp and head unit? i would use no smaller than 8awg power and ground directly from the amp to the head unit.
