Ok here we go... I have a 1998 Range Rover with an Elemental Designs Nine.1 pushing an Orion H2 15.2 at a 1ohm load. 1200w to the sub. Yes I know not the best combination it will change very soon trust me. The problem is when a song is on and bass hits the subwoofer doesn't hit the note, instead it makes a popping noise as if it were blown or there is too much power going to it.
I am using the factory subwoofer speaker wires to a converter for my RCA's (I apologize I can't find the name of what that is) my 12v power wire is 4g and has the right amount of juice running through it. The ground wire is also good (tested) but is a bit smaller than the power. All my wires have ends and are very tight.
From my research there are three variables to this problem. A bad ground, subwoofer cone is blown, or my amp isn't working.
I just moved here so I don't have friends to help out by using their amp/sub, but I have all the tools in the world.

How do you have your gains set. You could have some clipping going on.

Ok, found the factory subwoofers (8") and they both work on the Nine.1. I took my H2 out of the box and rewired it directly to the amp, and all you hear is a loud gurgling sound, and a loud 'scrathing' from the coils..not so good.
Is this a problem with wiring or should I face the fact that my Sub is probably a goner?

the popping could be from excursion beyond it's limits and/or clipping. regardless, the sub may be damaged.
if you manually push the cone in and out, does it make any noise. if you do that with a DMM connected to the leads, does the DMM ever read zero ohms?
i would test the sub on a different amp or a different sub with the amp to make sure.

x2 on hooking the sub up to a different amp and seeing what happens.
You might also want to rule out the signal that is going to the sub amp. If you have an ipod or mp3 player, portable cd, etc that you can run RCA out of to the sub amp, you can rule out whether it is getting a good signal or not by unplugging the adapter input to the amp. Make sure to turn your new source all the way down before you plug it in. Turn on your system to power up the amp then start to increase the volume on your portable source unit and see what happens. If it still sounds the same, then the problem is either in the amp or the sub or the wiring for the amp. At least this way you will have ruled out the signal coming into the amp and can focus on the amp and sub.

ok i have a few test id like to try lol. i like the battery test find a 9v or smaller battery and hook it up to the sub if it pops everything is ok. with the wires connections. push on it to see if its extremely loose and makes noise remebr noise is bad. once thats down. then go to your amp grab any speaker around the house you can find if power is running thru your amp and moves the speakers then all is ok with the amp. thats really all i can think about so hopefully all work out just right.

Okay; so far, everyone has contributed very valuable information to help you solve the problem but judging by the way you explain your problem, and the way you (repeated) seem to understand what they have all said, you are obviously not a Tech. and that's okay because that's why we are here; to help each other. So lemme help you do it correctly the first time:
First; (1) like the other guy said, 'push evenly on the cone of the woofer with your hand...if you hear any scratching sounds to one side or another, the VC is expanded/ fried' (2) Use the 9V battery (make sure polarity is correct)to "pulse" the cone and see if it goes out and returns smoothly...if it does, then it's probably okay (3) last test - use a DMM with autorange. connect the leads to the terminals of the woofer. Look at the SPEC sheet of the woofer or ask the Manufacturer for "RE" (Electrical Resistance) and compare what you read on the meter with what they tell you. It is okay if the numbers are off by 0.2-0.5 ohm but no more. If these numbers are way off (higher or lower), the driver is fried. Do all of this before even wondering if the amp. is defective or the settings are okay because even if the setting was not correct, bottoming out souds VERY differently than consistent popping...which is what I deduced you were saying. keep in mind, you can always turn down the music to determine whether (a) the power cable is too small, (b) the setting (sensitivity) is too high or (c) the LP frequency is set too high.
