ok so i was in the process of changing the location of my amp, its a sony 600 watt 4 channel amp, and when i was putting all the wires back on i didnt realize that on the front left channel i had the wires switched, i had the + on the - terminal and the - on the + terminal. i went to try it before i knew what was wrong and it didnt work, so i checked the fuses, both 25 amp fuses were blown, so i changed them, found the wires and fixed them, now the front left channel doesnt work, VERY little sound is getting to the speakers, like its working but its barely audible. did i fry that channel? the other 3 channels work fine.

it sounds like you did fry that channel. after hooking things up check your work over and over before turning the amp on.

no, it was an overall bad situation it looked like it was about to rain outside, it was getting dark and i was in a hurry, i should of double checked everything bit i ddin't, but i thought that was the reason for the fuses on the amp, to prevent it from hurting itself

fuses do not protect you from reversing speaker wires. they are for power only. if you were in a hurry you should of stopped and finished the next day when you could of finished things properly.

yeah i know, well, you live and learn i guess, im just thankful it was a cheap 100 dollar amp and not a high end amp. i actualy just went to walmart to exchange it, they didnt even ask if it was my fault or not no questions, just replaced it, so i guess its not so bad.

reversing polarity on the speaker outputs would not damage the amp. that would just cause the speaker to run out-of-phase compared to the rest.

if the speaker outputs are shorting to ground, that would damage the channel.

reversing power and ground would cause both fuses to instantly blow.
