RE reccommends 1.5cu ft tuned to 35Hz (compact) or 2.0cu ft tuned to 33Hz (optimal). The Kicker boxes acutally have a round port on the side of the box but there is a lot of time put into those enclosures to make them sound good. If someone that doesn't know what they are doing just drilled a hole on the side for a port did this I would deffenitly get a new box built. You can get them from crutchfield which will cost $120+ or from sonicelectronix for under $100.
