I bought a pair of jl audio 10"w6s and I want to put them in my tahoe.. I have a 12" in rightnow.
What amp should I use 4ch, 2ch or mono?
Also can I even install the subs if my cd player only has 3 pre outs is so how?

Sorry but I'm new to this audio stuff.
Thanks Dan

We need to know what impedance of the W6 before we suggest on an amp. I personally go with a mono for efficiency and power.

You mean like ohm, if so it's a 4 ohm..

You would wire it like this if it is a two dual 4 ohm subs. This will give a 1 ohm load.

So you need an amp that would do 1200 at 1 ohm.

...besides telling us the impedance of each of the VC's, you should also talk a little about your system. For example; what freq. range are the drivers intended to cover? the answer could dictate the amp. you choose since the lo-pass freq. point (<)would have to be correct for the application as well.

Ok well it's gonna in a tahoe but rightnow I have a 12" pionner sub with a crapy infinity amp but want more out of my system its running with an 8 gauge wire rightnow. I just realy want my system to hit harder but sound good.

How big is your box and is it sealed or ported? Is it a prefab box or custom. What model is your amp?

Maybe the reason you are not getting good sound from your sub is improper amp setting, improperly built enclosure, or both.

i recommend new power wire for starters. 4awg minimum, 1/0 optimum.

second, a new amp is a must. even a JL 1000/1 wired to the subs at 4 ohm (series/parallel) would be great. you want a Class D amp to run them (to keep the cost down).

You could also use a large 2 channel Class A/B amp and bridge it to a 4 ohm load (again series/parallel coils). This may sound better but it will also increase current draw.

There are lots of amps that can fit the bill. shoot us a budget for a new amp and we can make suggestions. don't skimp on a good amp.

Hell everyone haven't been on in a while.. So I was looking at a hifonics Brutus 1210D mono amp. Is that amp to much for the w6's because it said it will do 1200 watts at 1ohm. So will it be giving each sub 1200 or divide each with 600? And will I wire it the same way as the jl specs up top..
