New to this forum. Been at DIYMA since February, but getting a little tired of some of the antics over there. Anyway, got lead here by one of Team Sound Domain's signatures and like what I see so far.
I am building a SQ system in my truck. Mostly finished, but really want to go mids and tweets in some custom fiberglass A-pillars. I could probably do it myself, but I am a busy business owner and just don't have the spare time that I would like. Would like to get the major work done this winter and hopefully ready for first ever competition in 2010.
I have Dynaudio MW182 in my doors and currently md140/2's in the kicks and Alpine F1 tweets in the pillars. Want to move the mids to the pillars.
Anyone know of a good fabricator near the Louisville, KY area, specifically someone with fiberglass skills?

Welcome to SoundDomain. I do not know anyone but the best thing to do if noone here does is go to your local shops and ask to look at some photos of the installs they have done. That should give you a pretty good idea of that they are capable of.

I'd be worried that the path lengths in a Ridgeline would be too different for a mid mounted in the A pillar. Have you tried fabricating any test enclosures to try out that location before going fiberglass?

I have been reading this forum for a long time and finally decided to join-up. Imtfox has the right idea in his question to you. I live just south of Lexington, KY. In Lexington there is a audio store on Nicholasville Road(U.S.27)named Autosound, Inc. they have been in business for years(mid-80's) and produce real quality installs. You might want to check them out.

Imtfox has the right idea in his question to you. I've been doing this since the mid 80's as well
Welcome!

Thanks!!! I had a 1989(new) Grand Prix that I and two buddies completely stripped and put in the original Dynamat, man was that stuff a mess!! I had the original Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6.5 and 5.25", plus 2 Boston Pro 10's. I had a old Sony deck and soon moved up to the first 4 volt Pioneer deck they offered. I used an Orion 2150 HCCA amplifier to power everything with. We had to custom build our kick panels for the 5.25"s and we listened for hours(track 10) to the IASCA 1991 test cd and constantly moved the T/M's. I just recently found that CD on Amazon and I jumped all over it!!! We put the Boston 10's in the rear quarters. It was a helluva an install for a group of kids doing it on the weekend!!

Thanks for the welcome and feedback guys. Some good insight.
I have temporarily tried the mids up on the pillars since they don't need enclosures (they are Dynaudio closed-back domes). The big deal in the ridgeline is that the driver's side kick panel fires the mid right into the dead pedal and the side of your foot. RTA shows that I have to eq the heck out of the driver's side kick to get it to sound anything like the passenger side.
I have plenty or processing capability with a Zapco dsp6, fully active with 8 channels of Tru S45 amps. Just a short test listen with the mids moved up top and some very quick time alignment and eq adjustments and I was wowed by how string instruments really came to life. I am strictly shooting for a one seat wonder. I realize that the sound for the passenger is not going to be great, but my wife could care less. It all "sounds the same" to her! : )
I know about Autosound in Lexington. At least I heard of them. I worked for about 5 years for Ovation Audio back in the late 80-'s early 90's in sales. We had a store in Lexington.
From what I have seen from Louisville area shops so far, they either don't have fabrication skills, or they are all about the bling and have no idea about sound quality. I love music and want the install to be classy but be second priority to the sound. I think it is a good idea to hit a few more shops and ask for some pictures.
Thanks again.

Absolutely, it does seems to be all about the bling. I want my installs to be as factory and stealth as possible. I try to tell my teenage son's friend that it's not about what it looks like but what it sounds like. Yes I remember the Ovation store very well. Sold Rockford if I'm not mistaken. Yeah I understand my wife is the same way. The bass hurts her ears very much and she is tone deaf so she doesn't hear what we are listening to.
