i went to my autozone store and checked my voltage on my 2005 trailblazer...they told me that i should change my battery and my alternator. they reported to me that i had excessive ripples....just what does that mean? what can i do should i just change my battery because i see in the dash that my voltage is around 14.4 volts when idle and on. it has died on me 2x after ive turned it off after 7 hours of no use of my vehicle.

Is this regards to audio-related problem or in general?

excessive ripple is a symptom of a failing regulator or a battery with a bad cell, or both. Usually, the battery has a cell go bad first and then the regulator on the alternator fails from the strain... which is why they suggest you replace both parts.

yea the thing is i think i messed up my batt because i just took my amp off and my subs and it started doing this......i took off my class d and tried to put in a 4 channel i had layin around kuz im gonna sell the class d so yea after i had it installed, my battery started to loose current for no reason i then unplugged all the connections kuz i thought it was drawing current even at idle without my ignition being on.......i guess i will try and change the battery then right? i had no previous problems with my electrical and i think its the factory battery that went bad as its a 2005 trailblazer.....

If you drain the battery completely twice then that is enough for a battery to be ruin.

If you believe the amp is the cause of the problem, have the amp tested. Most likely your problem is from a short somewhere.

a battery is easy to have tested. if the test shows it's bad, replace it. a lot of problems (car related) can happen due to a bad battery. it's pretty important.

if, after you replace the battery, your ripple remains, then have the regulator replaced, or just upgrade the whole alt.

after you get the new battery, and it gets a full charge, it shouldn't die after 7 hours. if so, you also have a short or other failing part causing current drain. an easy way to test for this is to use an ammeter (or DMM in ammeter mode) and look for current when the car is off. do this at the fuse panel(s) by pulling a fuse and inserting the ammeter probes, completing the circuit.
