i'm trying to install an old amp i had laying around, and have no idea how the heck to connect it... it's a TEK 35.2 amp, to complement an equally crappy Kenwood KDC135 head unit.
the amp has a 4-pin connector labelled "High In," and a couple RCA connectors labelled "Low In." (photo attached) the head has the standard kenwood connector and a couple RCA connectors labelled "SW Rear." (photo attached)
i'm planning to just hook this up to go through a couple 5-1/4" coax rear speakers and a couple 4-1/2" fronts.
am i supposed to use both the "High In" and "Low In" connectors on the amp, and if so, what goes into each? i don't have any connector with that 4-pin connector on it...
please help!

1: so the "SW Rear" connection on the deck is supplying signal to all 4 speakers? I don't need to somehow tie in all 4 speakers to the "High In" on the amp?
2: any advice on how i should set the "level" and "frequency" on the amp? (see photos above)
3: if i wire it this way with the RCA's, i guess i'll just lose control over the "fader"?
4. it's only a 2-channel amp...do i just "double up" the speaker wires? running both left speakers straight from the left channel?

You can do one of three thing, you can wire both left front and rear to the left channel and do the same thing for the other side. The disadvantage of this is that you can not use the fader like you said. Second, you can get an active crossover with three outputs, and third get another HU with L/R/sub preouts and run another amp. Usually the latter would seem to be a better choice because you have dedicated output to your amps.

thanks! i think i've gotta go the 'cheap' route...(option 1) for the time being.
any advice on what speakers to get? (2) 4" and (2) 5-1/4"...
i've got a lot of space to fill...i know i can't expect much (if any) bass out of any speakers this size, but do you have recommendations on 'the best for the money'?

The best for how much money?
You aren't going to get much of an answer to that question by many people on this forum. They always like to reply "go listen to a bunch of different speakers in your price range and buy the ones that sound the best to you".
you can ask, what is your favorite for $xxx and you will get a response. But I never buy speakers without listening to them, and taking the listening conditions into consideration (i.e. showroom vs car). If someone on an internet forum thinks they can tell you what YOU will like in YOUR car, they are misleading. Unless they have owned that exact same car, AND had your same budget, same expectations, etc. then they might be able to provide good recommendations. Regardless, you should listen to as many speakers as you can. It gets you into local shops, building relationships. We also recommend buying authorized, and buying local whenever possible.
As to the original purpose of this thread; I agree with using the single set of RCA outputs (not in subwoofer mode) to feed the amp. front and rear speakers can be ran in parallel (unless you get Infinity Kappa 2ohm speakers, or another low impedance speaker).
For lower priced speakers (<$200), I think you should try to listen to the following 4" speakers (then get the matching 5.25") Boston Acoustics S45 Alpine SPS-400 Focal 100HC or 100CA1 Infinity 4022i or 4032cf JBL JL Audio MB Quart Morel Tempo 4C
OR, depending on the location of the front speakers, get a 4" component set so you can improve the tweeter location.

okay...NEW IDEA! i want to add a sub.
the stock speaker setup in my '88 mitsubishi van had an itty bitty crappy subwoofer encased in a 7"x8" plastic box under the dash. (with a really complicated wiring harness). see photo:
should i make use of this same space to put in a sub? maybe a "powered" sub? or is there a better idea utilizing my current amp setup?
when i remove the little 4" stock sub box in the photo,(inoperable since i changed from the stock head unit) the open space is 9-1/4" high x 8" wide x 10" deep (this 10" dimension could be expanded up to 12-1/2" if i wanted to get fancy and do a 'cut out' of the plastic piece under the gear shift).
i could put something in the same position as the stock sub shown in the photo, or i could lay something flat on the floor...
thoughts?

you may be able to find a stout 6.5" sub. some 8" may be able to play there, but you're pushing the enclosure size limitations.
what do you mean by "lay something flat on the floor"? are you referring to the cargo area?

you may be able to find a stout 6.5" sub. some 8" may be able to play there, but you're pushing the enclosure size limitations. i guess i don't understand how i'd power a 'passive' sub given my current situation with the HU set to "non-sub" and running (4) coax speakers in parallel...
what do you mean by "lay something flat on the floor"? are you referring to the cargo area? i just meant instead of bolting something upright the way the stock sub was (shown in the pic above,) i could have something laying flat on the floor in that spot...maybe even something like THIS powered Kenwood sub (although its measurements are too big to fit there).

one of these would fit...
the JVC CS-BB2 has been discontinued, but i could pick one up on eBay and put it on the floor. if i did, how would i wire it into the existing system? run a splitter off the RCA jacks on the HU? take one set to the TEK amp and one to the powered sub?
