heres the deal...

I sold my last car, and have all the audio equipment sitting here...a double din pioneer, a set of 6.5 ALPINE SPX 17refs, an oldschool alpine 40x4 and a jl 500.1

I sold the sub, so I plan on hopefully selling the amp too or trading it for a JL 4channel. Either way im going to get a JL 4channel though.

I just bought an 86 camaro as my new toy, and none of the equipment fits without modification...I'm modifying the dash to fit the double din, I am using adapter plates to turn my 6.5 components into 6x9s...but im left with a 4x6 opening in the dash.

Now i know supreme soundstage is in front of you, but i cannot figure out a way to do that in this car...there are two 4x6s in the dash, and two 6x9s in the bpillars behind your head (im not doing kick panels, too expensive)

Basically, what 4x6 speaker, or speaker that will fit in that housing will sound good with the SPX-17refs??? do you think i can mix and match brands? or should i stick with alpine?

don't buy a 4x6. buy a good 4" component set, make a baffle for it.

you can mix brands. tonally they will sound different, but since they are in different locations with different aiming, they will sound different anyway.

really, you should do everything you can to get the 6.5's up front. either door pods or kicks - use the money you're planning on spending on new speakers.

Hey, thanks for always helping out...you seem to be the guy that responds to all of my posts!

Anyway, lets say i managed to modify the dash openings to fit the 6.5 components, and i put 6x9s in the rear with a low pass crossover...how do you think that would sound?

we're here to help. the problem with dash locations is airspace, vibrations, and controlling the rear wave. make sure the baffle is sturdy, and fill the cavity with acoustic fill.

pics of dash openings?
