I am looking at subwoofer enclosers for my 2005 chevy silverado crew cab. I have been looking at building my own until I came across this...
http://caraudiofactory.com/20012007-chevy-crew-propoly-jumbo-p-364.html
http://caraudiofactory.com/20012007-chevy-crew-behind-seat-poly-p-233.html

So what do you think? I'm putting in 12" Memphis subs. Am I better off building my own out of some 3/4" MDF?

depends on your fabrication skills.

verify the recommended air space for your exact subs. then compare that with the pre-made boxes. you can build your own for less, and if done right it can perform better.

Well space is the main issue (I have none)so I am not sure how I could build anything to sound "better" when it has to fit in a definite space. Gotta be a sealed enclosure because I don't think I can make a ported one to sound at all decent with the slim shape it has to be in. The subwoofer has a minimum of 0.6 and an opt of 1.0 airspace needed. So I would be about in the middle. Would the sub sound better as a down or up fire box under the rear seat instead of something behind the seat firing at the driver? Is 5/8 MDF with the spray on liner going to be strong enough? From reviews, people seem to be happy with it but I thought I'd ask around first. I'm a pretty good fabricator but I have too many hobies and I need to pick my battles.

i think 5/8" MDF is ok for most applications. I like 3/4" myself.

sounds like the airspace is adequate. as far as which orientation is best - each install is unique. but that orientation is tried and true, firing forward.

it comes down to cost and how much your time is worth.

i would add T-nuts to the enclosure so you don't end up stripping out the MDF with wood screws.
