I want to set the gain on my amp properly so i am going to try to do this. My head unit is a pioneer p3100ub and my amp is a 08 ZX 750.1 kicker mono mp 2ohm stable. My sub is a 12" L7 kicker DVC 4ohm. I dont know what voltage to set the gain at with the dmm. I trid looking for a chart but cant seem to find one. By the way i ahve noticed that some people suse the 40hz tone an some pople use the 50hz tone. Which on should i use?? I do know i am sopose to set the levels of head unit at zeros but what preset equalizer am i supposed to put it on. And would it be best to set my cross over on my amp at 80hz?? By the way i have a 3.75^3.0 ported box at 35 hz. I dont know what else to say but that is my setup what do you ghuys recommemnd me regaurdin my questions above?? I tried looking at various videos on youtube about thi but since i am new to this i need a bit of help to make sure i am going on the right path. THNX in advance. Feedback would be great.

I would use a 50 or 60 Hz tone, you want to be above Fs.
so you want 750W at 2 ohms?
there is no chart, just math.
P = V^2/R
750W = V^2 / 2ohms
1500 = V^2
SQRT(1500) = V
38.7 = Vac --- reading on DMM, not to exceed.
set volume at the highest level you'll ever want to use. if you use bass boost, set it where you plan on it being. if you set the gain with boost off, then turn it on you could clip.
listen to your subs. clipping is audible.

Super Cool!! THNX for the info. Helped me a bunch. What should i set my preequiealizer at?? I have a pioneer 3100UB head unit. It has settings like super bass, powerful, flat, vocal, What does everybody normally set theirs at?? And to make shure once again i am supposed to have all levels at zero?? Is it recommended to use base boost setting on the amp?? I have ran into some poeples setups and a person used 3DB not sure of reson but i am new to this audio stuff and barely understanding as i read. THNX alot once again!! Oh and where can i find a 50 hz track/tone. I cant seem to find one. If anyonme seeems to have a track i could use i would appriciate it if you email it to me at itsdusk2dawn@hotmail.com

You should have your HU EQ set to flat or off when setting gain. RealmofExcursion.com has test tones that you can download.

if you find that you want to use bass boost and always have it on - go back over and check the gains again with it on.

Sow hat your trying to say is that I should replace my 4gauge grounds that run from my amp to chassis using 1/0 cable?

if you have 1/0 power wire, you need 1/0 grounds.
consider this - the overall useful wire size, is the smallest size in the path. the path includes all power and all ground wires between the amp(s) and battery and alt.

When im tired adjusting my ampsa gain with my dmm i had set my preset EQ on flat made sure all levels were at zero on my head unit. I turned down my gain to 0 and based boost to 0 and i left the crossover at 80hz on the amp. As i was raising the gain, it didnt reach the 38.7 votes that i was supposed to set it at with the gain at 100% but it did reach the 38.7 once my base boost was at about 50%. I didnt feel confterble leaving my gain and base boost so i just turned thm back down. I dont know if i was doing this correctly but i disconnected the speaker wires and placed the dmm cables to that amp where the speaker wires were supposed to go leaving the sub disconnected. I hope i was doing this correctly if not correct me if i am not doing this like i should be. BTW i was using a 54hz tone.

two reasons that could happen:
1. the signal strength was not enough - i.e. the HU preout voltage is too low to reach rated power output. keep in mind that to make rated power you may need the max input voltage. using bass boost you were able to reach the necessary input level.
2. the voltage at the amp was not 14.4V, which is where the amp may be rated. at 12V you will get about 60-70% rated power output with that type of amp.
maybe use the math above to calculate what is needed to get 600W RMS and repeat your original test. Then, you can add bass boost without the risk of clipping.
