As mentioned in other threads I've been pretty set on getting a PDX-5 because it fits the bill in terms of performance and form factor. I need to squeeze it into a small enclosed space so a hot amp would worry me. But just now the Polk PA1100.5 caught my eye so I pulled a comparison page on Crutchfield:
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/C...tems=01|500PDX5
The signal to noise in particular jumped out at me, but also the price break. The Polk was a $700 amp, now at $430. Looking on Polk's site they say it runs cool and have what looks like a pretty good manual. But it is a lot bigger than the PDX-5.
Making the PA1100.5 fit will require some effort, does it offer enough of an advantage over the PDX-5 to be worth it? Here's what I'll be driving with the amp:
Boston SL60 components in front Infinity Kappa 92.9i coax in rear doors JL 8W3v3-4 in their FlatWedge™ Low-Profile Ported box
The amp will be in the same small cargo space as the JL box: 33" x 22" x 5.5" enclosed.
As an aside, I'd also considered the Powerbass ASA-400.4 plus a 400.1, but that's gotta be too hot, right?
All opinions welcome! Thanks in advance.

I like the specs on that Boston GTA-1005. but it too will get warm/hot.
if you want an amp you can put in an enclosed space, not ventilated, go with the PDX-5. you can't beat it's small footprint.
but if you do have the ability to ventilate the amp location, any of the options you've listed would work. it's tough to say what combination you'd like the best.

Thanks again for the feedback. Glad to hear I wasn't overworrying the heat issue. I suppose I could ventilate (the Polk even has an external fan connector ready) but it'd be more trouble than it's worth. I spent some time with Google's SketchUp today and confirmed that the Polk would just barely fit in the space, the Boston is a little smaller but would have the same overall impact in the area, making it a bigger hassle to get to the spare tire and tools. For the $100-$200 I may save investigating every option other than the PDX-5 it's not worth agonizing over anymore. Next week(end) I'll probably be doing DPro and LLPro on the floor - good time to run lines for the amp. So I guess I'll go talk to the local shop that first suggested the PDX-5, tell them they've got a sale.
Thanks much!

Willdo, but don't expect show quality flash. It will be a more 'practical' install and invisible with everything closed up. Tidy but functional. The floor work should be interesting tho, with all that sexy black DPro.
