Panasonic HU, I pulled it out and checked the wires, I even re-crimped the ground and remote wire to make sure they were good. Sometimes it will go awhile without shutting off. When it does, there are times it will come back on instantly, and others where it stays off. One thing I did notice, the ground wire for it is a bit smaller than the wire in the HU. Not sure exactly what gauge wire the HU uses. Maybe 14 or 16, whatever size the HU wire is, the ground is actually using what looks like remote wire. So 2 gauge bigger. Could this be my problem? I had it play for 20 minutes straight yesterday before it kicked off.I have to assume it's a lose wire, but aside from those 2 I dunno what to check. Maybe I just need to replace the ground wire in the truck with proper size wiring?

FYI: when it's doing it the volume isn't very loud at all.

ground wire goes to my trunk, I sat in my driveway listening and it didn't cut out. So I'm guessing something is lose. You have a good point with the speaker wire thing, I did re-wire my front speakers, I actually clipped the wire outside my doors and used butt connectors to run the new wire. I was careful and tried to crimp them so they were tight. Would 1 shorting out cut out all 4 of my speakers?

yes, if one strand from one speaker wire shorts, the entire HU can shut off and protect itself.

if the voltage drops below 12V the head unit can shut off.

sounds like your ground is too long also. it should be less than 3 feet. long ground wires increase voltage drop. just ground it to the floor under the dash.
