I just got a new car and am getting back into audio.

I have a set of Morel speakers, amps and most of the gear from my last install.

Looking for a SQ install and would like a nice HU.

I know that there are some great options oversees, but I am not looking to spend crazy amounts of $$ on a HU, I am looking for bluetooth and ipod controls.

Any suggestions that would keep it under $5-600??

Thanks,
Kyle

You could look at an Alpine CDA-9887. Maybe a Pioneer 800PRS or 880PRS. Eclipse 7200mkII.

I looked into the 800prs, it says that IPOD and HD require external adapters. Can you use both adapters at once?
Also in the manual for the HU, it says that HD is only on "external" mode. What does external mode mean? Can you change channel and volume on the HU, or is this just a pass through?

I can get the 800PRS for a great price at car toys, but they couldn't answer any questions on it.

Thans,

Juan

Thumper26 would be a good person to ask these questions to.

you do need an external module. They have one module that allows you to hook up extra accessories to it. From that, you'd connect a cable for your ipod, and then i'd assume a normal headphone to pioneer ip-bus cable. The deck has options for multiple inputs, so it shouldn't be a problem. When I had mine, I had an ipod adapter hooked up, and while it wasn't as fast and smooth as the alpine, but the sq was much much better than the 9887, and the eq processing is definitely better than the alpine.

ok I am sold on the 800PRS, but now I can't find any. Car toys doesn't have any in stock nationaly. My local shop can't get it becuase they are not a premiere dealer, the online store I found is out of stock and none on ebay.

Any suggestions where I can find one?

Thanks,
Juan

That's the one I'd be using if I didn't have the Carrozzeria P-01. You should have a lot of fun with it.

I know there are several places in my area that sell the 800. My shop is a little far away from you though. What kind of relationship do you have with the shop you frequent? It seems a little messed up that someone can't make a couple phone calls to get you what you want. Honestly, that's all this is. I know my situation is different because I've known, and worked with, the owner of the shop I "silently invest in" for about ten years. He isn't a Premier dealer either because he doesn't move that much equipment. All he had to do when I asked him was call a friends who owns another shop who IS a premier dealer and order it through them. All it would have costs me is some swept shop floors and some beer to make the "hasssle" worth his while.

I'm an all for buying at a local shop...however, if you cannot find what you need locally, try Crutchfield. I know the pricing is a bit inflated, but you do have factory support versus buying off ebay or some other place that doesn't offer a factory warranty.

...wait a sec...

Crutchfield is out of stock. Hmmm...what pricing are you working with? That local shop of yours...even if it isn't a Premier dealer, the rep can probably pull some strings, or have it ordered through a premier dealer.

Like the signature says, be patient. This little 800 will come around for you. It's taken a month for me to get the P-01, and I can't even read the manual! Thank the lord for the Euro instructions. Look at it this way, when you do get yours, at least you won't have to send it back to Japan if any service related iussues come up!

Would you be willing to buy a used 800? I know several people that are running them that may want to part with them to get into a higher end unit.

I could go used if it is someone that you know and took care of it. Then again, not many would buy that unit and trash it. I have checked on pioneer's site and there are no dealers anywhere near me that sell it. I am a bit confused, but I am sure I can find it. I will check Crutchfield as well.

Thanks,
Juan

With that said Juan, let me check my used sources. The people I'm talking with are METICULOUS with their systems and vehicles.

...They're competitors at the top levels, the have to take care of their equipment. You'd be receiving a very well taken care of source.

Give me a few days to hear if something is available used. Keep looking around. If you don't find something, I might be able to put you in contact with someone in my local area to get you that source.

I appreciate the help SQcomp!

The only one I have found online is from woofersetc.com They have it listed for 499, was hoping to get it closer to the price the onlinecarstereo.com was selling for (367) but if it comes to it it is still below list price \:\)

Thanks for the help!
Juan
