After much shopping and 3 visits to retailers to listen to different speakers, I settled on these SL60s. They are to replace the stock tweeters in my A-pillars and the Infinity Kappa 92.9i coax that the previous owner put in the doors.
This is the first stage of an upgrade plan including a PDX-5 and a JL FlatWedge box (W3v3) later.
Even without an amp to drive them properly I'm impressed with the SL60s so far. And the best part? On sale now for $200 instead of $400 because Boston is replacing them with a new model. I found the deal at Crutchfield and a local retailer was happy to match it. They already had them marked down, just not quite that far.
It took me a while to get everything installed, mostly figuring out where to put the crossovers and how to get the tweeters into the stock location. It all worked out well. Not top notch wiring just yet but that can wait until the PDX-5.
My favorite part of the install tho is the custom MDF speaker rings I made for my doors. Not just a donut, they have 3 tabs for a through bolt to use the holes left behind after drilling out the stock speaker rivets. Very secure and stable.
Not sure when I'll finish the rest of the update, but this is a nice start!

Good. Glad to hear you are happy. You should be happy with that PDX-5. They are solid amps.

Thanks, I don't know when I'll get the PDX-5 and JL sub - it's a big budget jump - but this will do for now. Next step is probably Second Skin on the floor, Damplifier and Lux Liner.

Hi, the HD900/5? Thanks for the input. Yes, very nice but also a very dear price. That or the PDX-5 are the form factor I need tho, to sit next to the JL CP108LG-W3v3 in the small rear storage bin.

So far the best evidence that the SL60s improved the sound in the car is my wife's thumbs up. She has better ears than mine and wouldn't hesitate to tell me if I'd just wasted $200!

always good when the wife approves.

any amp by JL is better than Alpine (assuming new models). There are a lot of amps better than JL. All comes down to budget and expectations.
