Not had chance to muck with the system in a while. Still trying to find the alternator whine issue. Grounds measure good, but still have not found the ground for the HU to move it. Finally going to go through everything once more (before just considering one of those David Navone's filters) and was going to go through the gain sets again. Read DN's little tech on it and thought would be interesting to try the -10db 1k setting. Have 5 different discs for setting things up and none have a -10db. Those that have anything other than a zero bit are sitting at -20db. Really don't want to have to buy another disc so wondered if anyone had a place where you could download the tone for the skin flint price of zippo?

i've seen sites that offer programs (freeware) that create specific tones and band-limited white noise. i'll see if i can find them.

Thanks for the help. Just figured you were busy. Looks like that second one does have a try out mode. Just wonder if I'll be able to save the tone onto a disc that I can use in the car. I'll look more into it. Have you used it by chance? Thanks again.

shoot me an email: hardisj (at) gmail.com
I'll send you over a few different tones at different frequencies when I get a chance.
For setting different drivers' amp channels, you'll want to use frequencies within the respected driver's bandwidth. ie: 4000hz for tweeter, and maybe 1000hz for mids, etc.
If you're just testing for noise floors, it might not be a big deal, but if you're scoping outputs it will make a slight difference.

Thanks to KHA and Bikinpunk for their help. Bikinpunk supplied a couple of tones that I could use for the system. Set everything on the scope from front to rear from scratch. Using the -10db had tremendous hiss on changes between discs, quiet passages on classical music etc.
So, thought kept coming to the signal strength being reduced by the EQL. Like the EQ abilities, but how I have it installed I kept thinking that I was loosing signal and then having to gain the amps up so far afterwards that I ended up having noise due to the over gaining of the amp perhaps. Anyway, ordered a David Navone LOC. Simple one that does not have the remote turn on bit in it as not needed now.
Hooked the LOC in and set everything again from the very start. Used the -10db discs and still had a tremendous amount of hiss. So, back to the 0bit one and hiss is almost non existant. Just can barely hear it. So, lost the nice EQ ability, but got a better setting using the LOC then I did at 0bit with the EQ. Now just have the factory HU's Bass, Mid and Treble controls and that is it.
Anyway, thought I'd update and also give thanks to those that helped. Very much appreciated.
Wondered if there was a way, if I emailed the tones as sent to someone, that it would be okay to post them here on the board. I'm sure others may need something similar perhaps.
