Hey Guys, I'm new to the forum and was hoping I could get some help on an issue that I can't seem to get rid of. I installed a Kenwood DNX7120 headunit into my car and am getting a humming and buzzing noise coming through my speakers. The humming is present when my headlights are off and when i turn my headlights on a buzzing noise starts coming through the speakers. Also, my E-Brake seems to have an effect on this too.
*FYI, this is for a 2007 Honda Civic SI.*
Following is an explanation of my setup. I have a Metra harness to integrate my headunit into my stock amplifier and speakers. I didnt want to cut into my factory harness so i integrated the two together. I grounded the headunit to a bolt under my steering column where all the other electrical devices are currently grounded as I've read that it is best to ground all electrical devices to one single source. I also took the Brake Sensor input (this prevents me from controlling my navi while driving) and spliced it into the ground wire from my headunit so that i could control the navi.
Everything works great but the noises coming through my speakers is becoming annoying. These noises come and go so I'm sure there is a solution to this but I cant seem to figure it out. I have a few ideas/questions that I've been bouncing around.
1. Do you guys think that my splicing of the two wires is the issue? Could I be getting some kind of grounding loop by doint this?
2. Would grounding the headunit directly to the battery solve my problem?
3. Would some kind of filter fix this?
Thanks in advance, Vadim

You didn't say what car this was in so it's hard to tell what might be the problem without that.

Try moving the ground to a separate ground point. You should only ever ground the AUDIO devices at the same point. Using a noisy ground with other devices can easily cause this noise.
You shouldn't defeat the Emergency Brake Sensor wire like that as you are creating a dangerous driving condition.

I actually tried grounding it to a different spot, then when it was making the noise i moved it to the location under my steering column where i noticed other things were grounded to.
Ya ya i know but ill take that upon myself, i can shuffle through 30 playlists and 2000 songs on my ipod through my headunit but i can't change my driving destination, doesnt make much sense to me.

Do you remember the part number of the Metra harness you used? Have you tried running a new power wire to the head unit directly from the battery (temporarily) to see if the noise is on the power side?

I used the Metra 70-1722 wiring harness.
No i havent done that yet, its connected through my factory harness at the moment. The thing is that it comes and goes, when i moved my ground connection to the location under my steering column it actually went away for a little while and now its come back. So strange.
