I have pretty much finished my enclosure. It is a 3/4" MDF box chambered for 3 10" with .75cuft per sub. I used a sealant adhesive during construction, and a [censored] load of silicone on the inside. Is there any test I can do to check that it is sealed so I can go ahead and wrap it with my vinyl. My subs and amp should be here in the morning and I want my enclosure to be ready!

MDF is breathable anyway, so there is no real way to test other than visually looking and then installing the sub and listening for air. playing low frequency tones (30-40Hz) is a good way to listen for air leaks. i would install the

if you have a continuous bead of silicone along all seams, you are good to go.

however, given the time line, you should test with the subs first. that way you know your holes are of adequate size.

if the box is sealed, when you push down on the cone, you'll feel a decent amount of constant pressure and the cone will slowly sink in and slowly return to it's normal position.

if there's an air leak, the cone can be pushed down easier and it'll spring back to it's normal position pretty quick.

You could drill small holes in your box and as long as they don't whistle, you'd never know the difference... being "sealed" is really just a way to say "not ported on purpose". As long as you do a decent job with your cuts and your construction, you'll be fine.

I completely disagree. The only way you WON'T notice is if your box is already leaking anyways... that or your deaf.

The push test is what I use to start. With the last little enclosure I did, we had too much spring initially. After listening to the enclosure, we found that it was the terminal cup. So...we hot glued the [censored] out of the terminal and haven't looked back. It's a great little enclosure that acts as a level bench and blends in nicely to my wife's tacoma. We used a terminal cup to make the enclosure easily removable. Heck, we could probably even use it in a home audio application as well!

that's the important part... a small 1" hole wouldn't even be noticed if it didn't chuff or whistle... it would just look like a really highly tuned port to the sub (outside of the range it's trying to play anyway)

^exactly. small holes have no effect on performance.

you are more than welcome to test and return your results. you can't hear the difference between a unsealed screw hole and a sealed screw hole. never mind your hearing isn't very sensitive in the lower octaves.

i always seal holes up, but there have been times where I had a small screw hole that I forgot to seal up. never noticed the difference. i'm certainly not deaf. my RTA never saw a difference either. my WT3 never saw a difference.
