hello to all the experts i have a kind of odd question and dont know where to post it so ill take a shot here.i sometimes purchase electronic items such as car stereos cd dvd players and want to test them before selling them to anyone.just want to test the power functions and such.meaning hooking up the power and ground wires to get the unit to light up and check functions.not sure exactly what i can purchase to get this to happen.i was looking at a rayovac 12 volt battery with screw terminals someone told me this would probally work but not sure. the stereos i purchase usually say 12v on the top sticker.would this work for what im trying to do to test them??
Think of a 9v battery. How long will it last if you use it to power a light. Car batteries are rechargeable. Like I said buy a computer power supply if you want to be cheap O.

you should buy a 13.8V power supply, nothing else. no batteries or other gizmos. if you want to test car audio, you need a power supply. and Murph is right that any standard computer power supply can provide +12V out, that is an acceptable compromise.
you don't have to buy a 15-Amp supply. You can get away with a 5A supply for testing head units and dvd players. i have a 5A supply that i do all my testing with - granted, you can't expect to run amplifiers with it.
