Setup is:

JL 1000/1 V1
13w7 at 3ohms
Enclosure is 40W x 18.5H x 18.5D with a 4W x17H x25L Slot port. (6.2x cu. ft. at 30 hz)
4 Gauge wire with 2 batteries.
Stock everything else :-(

This box sounds better than the JL spec box, but it seems sloppy compared to 12w7/HO box I had before. It also seems as though the Sub is bottoming out and I don't want to hurt the sub. What would be better dimensions to make it louder. It's just that it sounds almost as loud as the 12w7.

I had a box built to JL spec before this and it sounded like it was tuned to 45-50 hz and I couldn't stand it. That's why I tried a different box.

Thanks!!!!

I know the box is too big, but I am looking for an alternative to the JL Spec'd box.

You need a net. volume of 2.375 cu.ft. for the 13W7. 6.2 cu.ft. is too big(about 3X bigger what it suppose to be) for the 13W7 which it is acting like it is in free air.

My lights don't dim and my fuse doesn't blow with the extra battery.I don't have the $ for an H.O. alternator right now.

I've read to make the box slightly bigger than the JL Spec box. What dimensions though?

I felt it wasn't enough and got the 13 for a steal from my brother.

play a 20Hz test tone and feel the bass.

did a 12w7 in the recommended box last week off of a 500/1. wasn't blown away by the sheer volume of the sub. but when i mic'd it and noticed it did 130db at 20Hz i "felt" what the w7 technology was all about. as for relatively "flat" response, the sub was within 2dbs from 30Hz up to 50 Hz. it peaked at 135db at 40 hz.

I've since built another box that has a net volume of 3.7 althought it sounds decent is still too high. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've done all the calculations and research. When I have a chance I'm going to make another. I'm not the type to pay anyone for it because I want to learn.
