i am about to tackle this myself. i researched alarms for several weeks. i first narrowed it down to a manufacturer, then chose a model. then i contacted the company to verify the type of immobilizer bypass needed since my key has a chip in it (and the alarm is also remote start).
then i got the installation instructions and read them. then i got vehicle wiring directions to help find the wires i need. all before i actually got the equipment delivered.
next i will test fit locations for the parts and pieces, taking note of wiring lengths. then i will prep the equipment, knowing what wires go where and how long they are (roughly).
i will set aside an entire weekend, start on Friday night. i'll disassemble the entire dash area to make accessing wires easy. i'll solder all connections then cover with heat shrink and then split loom. it will be an invisible installation.
an alarm is easier than an alarm/remote start. but you still need to know what wires to intercept and where to get them.

not exactly the most friendly car for an alarm beginner to work on....
get ready to read up on using resisters, diodes, and relays.
