Help with Gain/Bass EQ

Alright, I'm a noob with amps/subs/sound systems. And this is the first sub/amp installation I have done. All the wiring is complete, I just dont know what to set the Bass EQ/Gain to. Ive read a bunch of other threads but none make any sense to me, hence why I am making this topic.
I'm runnin a 12" Infinity with a 200w alpine amp. Like I said, I don't know much about subs/amps so please don't criticize what I have. lol
Anyways, there's a Gain/Bass EQ setting on the amp and I don't know how to set it correctly. The Bass EQ goes from 0db to +12db. And the Gain goes from min to max obviously.
Any help would be appreciated, please keep it simple, as I am simple minded towards this sort of thing.

In this forum, their is a thread on how to set your gain properly. When you use the bass boost, you have to lower the gain in equivalence to the setting. That is why it is best to not use the bass boost at all.
What model Infinity sub and amp do you have?

Also the rule of thumb is to set your amp at the preout voltage. This is the fastest but not necessarily the accurate way.

that is the safest method. it won't get the most power out of the amp, but you won't clip either.

how would i set an amp to my preout voltage? maybe i should just do this until i find a shop....

its a basic recommendation you could also do it by ear but without a mm
