Trying to decide how to best install my Dynaudio MW 160's. I have Seas H1212's in the A-pillars and a single Flatlyne 12" IB in the rear. Anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to install the Dyn's. I am leaning towards sealed, I figure I can do an 11 liter fiberglass box to replace the bottom of the door panel in my Accord. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

i would prefer sealed, since you then have total control over the enclosure. the kicks would be better locations, not sure how much crap you'd need to move in a 2005 accord though. i have plenty of room in my 2001.

i seriously considered sealed on the bottom of the door, then bringing the speaker out and angling them up and back - so they new enclosure would extend to the same depth as the kick panel trim pieces.

No way to do the kicks that I can see but your description of the door enclosure is exactly what I have been planning. The hardest part for me is making the first cut I plan to angle them up and back but I have to work with the glove box. Also don't want to create a safety hazard. Given my concerns and the work involved I wanted to make sure it would be worth it. Sounds like it will be. Hope to get started next week

make sure to take plenty of pics. start a Sound Domain Show Off thread and describe your process!

my accord has a perfect line in the door panel where it changes colors - it's two different materials put together. it was a perfect line, just separate top and bottom, remake a new bottom. but my FG skills are non-existent at this time. someday i'll tackle it.

look at my build log. I have 162's, but from what I understand, they're the same speaker. Seal the hell out of any door openings and build a solid baffle that's bolted to the door. They'll rock.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I spent about 12 hours last weekend making and glassing mounts to the doors of my Honda. Had to cut some metal out of the way as well but I am very pleased with the results. Due to time issues I went IB in the doors instead of sealed.
My time was spent doing more layers of deadner, adding acoustic insulation inside the door and glassing mounts to it. I took a few pics and will post them when I get a chance. The difference was amazing, I am now very happy with my setup and can pop any cd in and be proud of how it sounds. Minor differences in my car from others may be:
-Mounts sealed and solidly attached to doors. Many "float" them with clay and they may well be right but I read a lot of home audio stuff that stressed the cabinet adding mass to the speaker so I tried it.
-Used faitrly large amount of insulation in the doors. We use it at work to absorb sound (converts it to heat) in the walls of our generator enclosures. Looks a lot like what you would put in your house but is not "loose" Holds up well over time and was free \:\/ I keep it from falling with glue and metal rods. Next time I go in I am going to put more in and use something like chicken wire to hold it in place. I stuffed my door skins as well trying to add a second layer so to speak to my IB. Skins were sealed to let speakers play into the cabin but not behind the doors if that makes sense.
End result is Mids that play at 50hz with no problem. Everything blends very well and can really set crossovers in many different ways without ruining the sound. The Seas large format tweeters in the a-pillars play nicely down to 2000hz and really create a nice sound stage.

Need to have someone with more knowledge and experience listen to give me an idea of how I did because this is the first time in two years I have been happy with my car. I have possibly a wee bit of a Hot frequency with female vocals but really not bad. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP

Almost forgot, I added a dash mat and it really made a difference in the tweeter sound. Eliminated the slight fatique I had at high volume.

i think i know the material you are referring to, the foam/foal they use inside genset enclosures? as long as it's closed cell foam, and not open cell foam it shouldn't absorb water. the inside of your doors get wet, which is why the doors have drain holes. make sure to not block those. \:\)

looking forward to pics!
