I don't have anything too fancy, right now it's 2 Performance Teknique amps, 2 12" subs, Infinity 5x7 and Polk Momo 6.5 Components. I have a 2000 Ford Taurus. I plan to do the Big 3 soon, was looking under the hood today and I'm not sure I'll be able to do everything without getting under the car and maybe removing the Alt. IE: things I've never done and doubtfully would be any good at doing. I have a couple of questions.

Has anyone here done the Big 3 on a 2000-2005 Taurus? I read the sticky thread here, and I understand how it's done, but looking under the hood it might be more work then I'm capible of doing. Did you have to get under the car or remove anything to get to a wire?

And my 2nd question, I go to the Drive In theater out here, and even with 2 small'ish amps no way would I want to run my car for 2 movies. And I'm not really big on leaving my car on, or starting it every so often to make sure I don't kill the battery. I was pondering getting a Kinetik 1800 battery and putting it in my trunk. What relay would I want to use for this? Or better yet, is this what I'd want to do? They show 2 movies back to back and I'd like to be able to sit thru both without worrying about my car. I like it loud, would a dedicated battery in my trunk be enough to go 3 hours? I'm thinking no, but I don't have any experinse with running a 2nd battery or what kind of minutes I could get out of it. Amps claim 500 watts and 400 + 400 subsonic (whatever the hell 400 subsonic means)

i have a 2001 mercury sable which is pretty much duplicate to the taurus. the big 3 for me was very easy. it literally took probably about 1/2 hour taking my time. it took more time to crimp the ring connectors to the 4 ga wire.

BEAUTIFUL post man, the pictures are perfect. Your engine is identical to mine. Those pictures help me visualize things much better. 1/2 an hour isn't bad, hell if it takes me 2 I'm not worried. I'm mostly just glad to hear you didn't have to do any pulling of other parts to get to anything \:\)

my comments are that i would strongly recommend NOT using red wire for ground wires. it is confusing for anyone that would ever work on that car.

also, all new ground locations should be well prepped - sanded and cleaned of any grease/grime/dirt/etc. strut/shock towers are not good locations for grounds. try to avoid using any bolt that is already assigned to brackets, suspension, engine supports, etc.

many engine blocks have empty threaded holes that can be easily cleaned and used. grounding to the frame or firewall is nice, but you don't want unsealed penetrations into the firewall.

always route wires away from moving parts or high heat engine parts like exhaust/manifolds. always use tech flex or split loom to cover and protect wiring. when you are done, try to make it blend in with any stock wiring. always label or color code the wires for safety.

if you must use the same color wire for power and ground, label them clearly so they are not mistaken.

i didn't comment on any of that since he said that he did read the sticky thread which covers all those things. these pics are just examples, not models. my point on posting the pics was to show the simplicity of the install.

10hz maniac - semi stupid question, since the ALT to battery wire goes to the fuse box first, did you put a fuse between the alt and the battery? I'm thinking the fuse on the box isn't big enough - but I'm really just guessing.

i didn't, i would think the buss fuse on the fuse box would suffice.

Go straight to the battery terminal bypassing the fuse box. Put a fuse on that wire less than 18" from that terminal.

And doing this I no longer need the wire from my fuse box to my battery?

leave the factory wire to the fuse box. the new wire is in addition to factory.

clarification: fuse within 18" of the battery terminal, not the alt terminal.
