Equipment: ////Alpine CDM-9823, two Alpine tweeters, two Sony explode 8's and two 10 inch Rockford Fosgate (punchline) subwoofers, With the junky Power Acoustik OV2-520 520W MAX GOTHIC Series. I use 8 gauge wire for the 12V and Ground, not sure of the gauge wiring for the speakers.

I have the Power Acoustik OV2-520 520W MAX GOTHIC Series. Lol and yes I know it's a cheapo I have tried many ways on hooking it up, but everytime I get the redlight (protection light) I have just unhooked all of the wires, (speaker wires) (RCA Jacks) and had just the remote, 12 volt, and the ground hooked up. I still get the red light. The remote wire is hooked up to the head unit, and my ground is securley connected. All of the connections leading away from the amp are tight and secure. The fuse is still good. I also tested the wires that I have ran from the head unit to the amp, with a test light and they're all good. Another option I tried was running three wires from my battery (12V, Remote, and Ground) still the redlight and I know this is not a good idea, but it was a last resort for me. I know if the remote and the 12V are hooked up together it stays on all time, but I just used this method to see if it would flash the green light, but nope it didn't. Just wondering if there is any other way to check and see if the amp works, or do I just need to go to the person who I received the amp from and punch him in the face, haha. I mean this isn't the first time I have ever hooked up an amplifer all of the other times, I had no problems... Leads me to believe it's junk. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How long is your ground wire?

My ground wire is about 8 or 9 inches long, 'cause of the limited space I have in the cab of my truck. It's mounted behind the passenger seat. The ground wire is fastened to the floor/base of the cab underneath the carpet. I figured that this might have been a problem, seeing that it's not the best possible grounding method, but like I said, I've hooked it up to the battery terminal from under the hood, didn't help so I don't know, pretty much confused about it. The three main wires 12V, Ground, and Remote are around the right size gauge. 8 Gauge for the both 12V and Ground, and regular remote wire. Not sure if mounting will help but that's the plan of action that I am going to try today, but if you might know of anything to help please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

It really sounds like a load side issue, or a bad amp. If the amp goes into protect with no load (nothing connected to the output terminals), I would guess you have a bad amp. I have seen some cheaper amps that will not come out of a thermal trip on hot days. Get the amp cool (below 70F) and see if it still does this. I'm leaning heavily toward a bad amp.

The thought of thermal trip crossed my mind, it was midday when I installed the amp in my truck. I will try to install it on a cooler day or night. Thought about checking the connections in the amp by removing the case, see if I can notice anything burnt or loose.

Keep in mind that if you have a warranty, this will usually void it.

I don't think that it's still under warranty. I'm pretty sure it's an older amp, but I am giving up on it, another buddy of mine has two 12 inch pioneer subs and a 1000 watt kenwood amp for sale. I know this doesn't pertain to this topic, but if there is anyone who has a pretty good deal on a small amp PM me.
