I have a 2005 Ford 500 and want to install my Pioneer 7000bt and I dont want to use the wiring harness adaptor and factory harness. How difficult is it to run separate power to the headunit? I was thinking of running 0 gauge wire to a distro block with four 4 gauge lines out. Then run two 4 gauge lines to my 2 soundstream 500 amps and one 4 gauge to a stand alone fuse box. I would save the other 4 gauge for adding on another amp later. I would run my head unit off the fuse box along with any other eqs, processors, etc. How does this sound?
that's fine as long as you get all your fusing right...
why though?

i have been using 10AWG amp hookup kits for head units lately. separate 30A fuse at the battery. I tap the factory ignition wire to control a standard relay. the relay provides the ignition turn-on for the head unit from the 10AWG wire.
In my Honda i wired it all to a terminal strip behind the HU. my next rendition will be a bit more elegant.
