I just bought 2 12 dual 2's. I am paying my next doo neighbor to build a box. He is a cabinet maker by trade, but has no experince in building sub enclosures. I have a 2007 impala that does not have flip and fold rear seat. I have sevral questions. First the specs for the orion box are roughly 3 cubic ft per sub. If I understand correctly I will need to add the port on to that and add around .5 cubic feet for each sub. correct me if I'm wrong so far. There is a cut out in the metal under the rear deck lid and I would like to port the box threw that hole. so My other question is can i make the box 3.5 cubic feet and add the port on the top going outward??? With the subs faceing tawards the rear?

the displacement of those subs is about .29 ft^3 each, im not sure but i think you can have the port extend from the enclosure

yes, you can build the box so the port is on the outside of the box - but you won't get enough length with your plan. the port area and length determine the tuning frequency. the mfr specs should list a preferred port size and port length. most likely, the port will be both inside the box and outside the box. further, the box will need to be in several pieces to fit inside the trunk. the port will need to attach to the box separately. basically, it will be a puzzle.

you are correct add sub displacement and port displacement to the overall interior volume.

i suggest keeping the chambers separate - so you have one port per side. if you want one large chamber and one port you'll want to contact Orion or use sub box software.
