I will be going active with a set of Focal 165KF component speakers. They have an impediance of 4 ohms running through the crossovers. Would anyone know what load my amp will see with the components wired directly to my amp?

they will still be 4 ohms nominal. the individual drivers are 4 ohms. the crossover divides the frequencies and changes impedance outside of their operating range but other than that doesn't adjust their impedance.

I have read that passive crossovers, suck up a lot of juice. Do you think that this true or just or just BS?

a lot? no. some? yes.

if you have the power and processing to go active - go for it.

some passive crossovers are worse than others. some give more control than standard amps and head units.

It also depends. \:\) Some tweets are 6 ohms or 8 ohms.

I have both passive and active speakers in my cars. I prefer the Active setups. Makes tuning SO much easier. But the passive's don't take up as much amp power. \:\)

And you don't lose a ton of power unless you run some weird crossovers. My PG Ti Elite and Alpine F#1 both took some serious power and sapped it off. My KP2's? Almost none.

Wow....... I was under the impression that I would pick up / not loose any volume / headroom by going active. I was going to replace my ref350.2 with a DC360.4, not looking like a good idea now.

I think maybe that I should just get my ref 200.2 off of the shelf to run my tweeters and use my RF3sixty.2 to go active. I could definitely use the experience tuning.
