So I am installing my sub/amp this weekend and I am worried that it will overpower my stock speakers. I drive a 1999 Acura TL, it has the Bose system. I am curious if I spent around $100-200 on 2 sets of new 5 1/4" speakers...A. would that be better than my stock speakers? B. Do I NEED an amp to power them...like a 4 channel amp?

Thanks for any input.

The Bose system is amplified. Adding an amp for the subwoofer won't hurt the Bose system at all. If you replace the stock speakers, make sure they are the same ohm load.

Yes I have an amp for my sub. JL audio 500/1 for my ported JL 12" W6. I know my current speaker system is 200 watts...so my next question would be what speakers under around $100 per pair....$50 per pair would be better if they will perform better than the BOSE speakers. I need 5.25" round and I think 2 ohms but I have heard 4 ohms from some people about the 1999 TL bose speakers. I am gonna go with 2 ohm as that is what I have read the most.

edit: how about some Alpine type S's? Those are in my price range...any good?

Thanks for any help.

i am not impressed with the sub $100 speaker category. so, picking the best is difficult. one bonus is that you can find them everywhere. go have a listen.

the Type S is a 4 ohm speaker.

before you do any guessing. pull the factory speakers and see for yourself what their impedance is and what you have for mounting depth.

Ok so I went to Best Buy with a CD yesterday and listened to some and got a good idea of what I want. After I finish my sub install today (granted I can figure out my wiring mix up with the ground wire haha) I will check my speakers to see what I have to work with.
