okay. so...i was wondering. suppose you wanted to combine 12" subs and 15" subs. would that ruin any quality or whatever of the sound? like would it be better for you to just get all 12s or all 15s? cuz i thought that since 15's produced better lower frequencies and 12s could produce better higher frequencies since they are smaller and respond better/faster, would it be a good idea, in your opinion, to combine them??? thanks!

no, not a good idea.

reason: cancellation

the only way that set up will work properly is if you use a crossover to allow each sub to play only a limited set of frequencies.

but time and money is better spent on high quality subs (of the same size & model) that will have a wide frequency response

You CAN run differing size drivers, and at the same frequency. You can run into adverse affects putting them in the same chamber of an enclosure, but no you won't get cancellation from having a 10" and a 12" both do a 40Hz note.
Do realize that you will get a combination of both of their sounds unless you cross them over independently; you will not get the best of each with the worst of each magically disappearing.

Also, be aware that there are great sounding 15" (and larger), and crappy sounding smaller subs. There is not an inherent advantage to one size over another in the typical range a sub would play; a 10" isn't faster by dint of it's size than a 15".
Now, many companies engineer larger drivers to sound boomier, as that's what a large part of the market WANTS and expects out of big woofers, which lends much anecdotal evidence to that theory, but that's not to say you can't build a great SQ large woofer.
