i can fit about a 4.5 cube box in my trunk which fi recommends 3-5 cubes. any suggestions on port area or length? Im going for somewhat sound quality and i want to tune it somewhere around 28-30 hz

should i be good using 3/4 mdf or should i use 1 inch

also, im confused where i should mount the sub in the box. on some setups, i see that people mount the sub in the middle of the port and the side, and some people put the sub way over to the far side of the box, away from the port. where sould i put mine? does it have something to do with where the L port ends or something?

1. Again use 12-16 square inches of vent area per cubic foot of volume.

the tuning will determine the length ;\)

2. if your amp is about 2000 watts rms i'd go with the 1" mdf

i've always had good luck with the sub in the center and the port near the edge, both on the same plane

3/4" mdf is fine. i'd use 16 square inches per cuft, and flare the edges, either with a roundover bit on a router, or with 4 grit sandpaper and a palm sander.

put the sub and the port opening on the same baffle, after that you can orient them however. I'm stupid OCD on stuff like that, so I always try to make it symmetrical, but it's really preference. As long as they fit and the port is the right length, you'll be good. Having the port in different locations on the box will affect the sound, but I've never gotten into spl enough to tell you which way does what.
