I want to free up the space my 3 amps are taking up. I really want to place them in the "side-by-side" underneath trunk space. My two sub amps in one space, and my 4-way in the other. I am going to drill some holes along the topsides for air circulation.

Question: Do I really need to install a fan or two to reduce the heat? If so are they easy to wire?

During a hot day I did not notice any heat in the storage area.

Here is a link to where I am talking about:

any time you place amps in a small closed off area, it's highly recommended that you install fans as well.

to wire them up, you'll just need a relay. google a wire diagram and follow it. pretty simple stuff.

I would install fans or have some kind of vent for the heat to go.

As KamikazePSI said, you can google how to wire up fans. Computer fans work well, and are pretty easy to wire up using a relay. It isn't expensive to do at all, and is worth it to protect the money you invested in your amplifiers. Better safe than sorry.

Just make sure you have the fans setup to where one side will suck in fresh air from the outside on one side of the amp enclosure, and blows that air across the amps. On the other side, have a fan suck the hot air from the amps and blow it back outside of the amp enclosure.

Shoot just gut those compartments and make a new rack.

I would gut them but I only plan on keeping the vehicle for no more than two more years.

Remove them and see what it will take to build a new compartment. Put the old one back in when you are done. For a truck with a system it looks bone stock to me.
