I have been out of car audio for a while. So Im not quite up to date on some of the newer stuff. I will be running an Alpine PDX-5. I was looking at the CDT 6.5's (forget the model number, but guessing the middle of the road ones), as well as the US version (w/ extra set of tweeters), and also the JL c5's. I guess I have a few questions but,,,is this amp going to be enough to power them (in particular the CDT's which have a greater rms)? Has any one tried both of these? I listen to a variety of music, and want a clean and smooth sound with the ability to be loud. In years past Ive had Boston Pro Series and JL VR/XR's. Thank you in advance for any advice. My price range is about topped out at 300 or so. I cant spend several k unfortunately on mids/highs.

have you had a chance to listen to both? i don't recommend buying speakers you can't hear first - especially in that price range. i haven't heard CDT because no one sells them around me (i think there is a dealer in IA somewhere). i have liked the JL speakers i have heard in sound boards. i have yet to hear some properly installed in a vehicle.

are you going to bridge the PDX channels for more power or run four speakers?

keep hope alive, thanks for the reply.Ive run in to the same issue, no one has the CDT's, and the JL's are just on a board. I was hoping some one may have heard both in a vehicle and had some input. Ive heard good things about the CDT's, but it's all from this board. If I remember correctly, with the PDX theres no difference in power if you bridge it. ..I think its 4x75 or 2x150 (+ sub ch)
What fronts are you running? And what do you think about them?

I just pulled Alpine Type-X comps out - i liked them for the price. The tweeter of the 177R series wasn't as smooth as i like, but it did sound good - got a ton of complements and was hella loud for just one set up front. I went back a few years and have an OZ Audio 3-way comp set i'll be running active on xtant amps. my sig has the build log of what i did.

even though speakers are in a board - you can still evaluate them against the others in the board. a sound board evens the playing field. listen for tonality and how the speakers sound. listen to the tweeters. make sure they are powered from an amp, not a head unit.

if you like how speakers sound in a sound board - you will love them in your car (typically).
