I did a search for this but didn't find the answer I'm looking for. Any help will be appretiated.
I am installing new front door speakers and tweeters. They came with crossovers. My question is....
Do the crossovers have to be installed close to the speakers or can I put them in the trunk with the amp? I'm worried about sound quality. Not sure if the distance between the crossover and speakers make a difference.

distance does not matter. if you place them by the amps then you have twice as much speaker wire. i put mine in the glove box last time. it seemed to work well and allowed for easy adjustments. my Alpine Type-X crossovers had a lot of settings and adjustments so i wanted access from the front seats.
i have also located them in the door pocket before. and i have located them in the rear before. all depends on the vehicle and expectations.
If you think you will ever go active and dump the passives, I would mount them near the amps. It will save you time running new speaker wire next time.
Other than that--mount them anywhere they won't get wet. If they are somewhere tight, make sure to cover the terminals so they don't short out. Even electrical tape over the screws is better than nothing.
