I have a Kenwood KDC-X990 deck, CDT CL62/24's and a couple ID10's powered by a Quart RAA4200.

The kenwood had SRS WOW built in and I never touched it...I disabled it today and everything sound so much better.

Is this just something to make stock setups sound better or is it really good for better setups?

Thanks

I think I have it off though.

i wouldn't use SRS WOW or the other "sound enhancers" unless i really didn't care for accurate reproduction. at low volumes it may help an unbalanced sound system sound more "rich" or "full". at medium or higher volumes it will usually cause problems.

I did a quick test today after installing my subs again...no crackle with SRS WOW off in the tweeters at high volume. Need to test more to be sure...however I am more concerned with my car getting flooded during a downpour yesterday (about 2 feet of water I had to drive through :() Fortunately only a little of the jute is still damp. Hoping for sunshine tomorrow so I can open the doors and let it cook.

crackle/static is there still, but I can play much higher volumes prior to it happening.

SRS Wow is a frequency enhancing algorithm. It's really designed to increase the perceived bass response from smaller speakers. You are probably hearing noise issues since you have (assuming?) larger speakers and subs installed. It really starts to degrade when you get to about a 6" speaker.

What's funny is WOW is about 12 years old now and was originally designed for the broadcast TV market as a lower bandwidth alternative to dolby to create an enhanced "Surround stereo" soundfield. Every once in a while you see the logo pop up on a TV show (Especially older re-runs)

Now, SRS WOW HD is really something, as is the new headphone algorithm they have out.

If you have anything more than stock paper 4" speakers, turn it off.
