antenna help

I recently installed a sony marine stereo into the false floor of the casting deck of my little starcraft fishing boat. I'm new to all of this... my question is, what should I do for an am/fm antenna? there's a wire on the harness for an antenna, but i don't know what kind to get, where to mount it, etc.

i use one like this

as far as mounting, i just put small dabs of epoxy on it & glued it to the inside of the space the stereo was installed. if you have wood in your area, you would have couple different options.

Thanks. does that plug into the back of your HU? do you think it should be out in the open air for better line of sight reception?

yes it uses the mini motorola connector (or whatever the name is) which has been the standard for couple years now. even if your hu has the older style larger connector, adapters are under $10 & can be found at most electronic stores.

fm isnt line of site. you can try temp mounting it in diff places to see what works best. ive never seen an fm antenna mounted externally on a boat.
