Well I originally had this post in "Headunit Help", but no one seems to be wanting to answer so I'll try my luck here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
So I recently purchased a Clarion M455A headunit for my boat. I used the headunit a couple times before it wouldn't eject my cd. I finally got the CD out, but the side of the headunit gets very very hot. I also went from a single battery setup to a dual battery setup (one cranking battery and one for my audio) and rerouted my power wire from the cranking battery to the audio battery. Could the wiring cause the headunit to be overheating like this? Please help! Thanks in advance

about the only way the new battery would harm the unit is if you ran too small of power/ground wires to the unit. if you are using the built-in amp, are you running it in 4ohm? if trying to run it in 2ohm, that could be too much for it. do u have adequate room where the unit is installed so it can dissepate the heat?

I am using a cheap Boss 4 channel amp installed on my boat with it. I have never stuck the headunit back into the compartment as it usually gets too hot to hold in a matter of a couple minutes.

does your head unit have a built in fan? if so, might want to check that it's working.

If the speaker wires on the radio aren't being used (you said you have a 4 channel amp) then it shouldn't get hot. Now if the radio isn't installed correctly like connecting the radios internal amp and the boss amp to the speakers or a speaker wire grounding out, then you can have over heating issues.
