I am debating if I should use a thirs Amp for a good pair of tweeters. I have a 3 way x-over and can use it to send frequencies over 5k. Will this be a good idea. I like very loud high HZ (12-20) without distortion. PLease, before I spend all the extra money??

having an amp strictly for your tweeters isn't anything out of the ordinary.

you don't need a very big amp though.

i used to run a set of boston components bi-amped and active.

i had a 160 watt amp going to the woofers/mids and a 100 watt amp going to the tweeters.

lots of headroom available in the setup and i had a lot of flexibility for tuning.

Just make sure you know what you are doing. With a passive they generally have a tweeter protection circuit (sometimes it is just a lightbulb). With an active system (amp just on the tweeter from an electronic crossover) you don't have that protection. So if you get some turn off pops or overdrive that tweeter---you will be replacing it.

Going active gives you some tuning flexibility but you have to be a lot smarter in how you listen to your system.
