neither situation is ideal. but you have more coloration from speakers than amplifiers. as long as you don't operate the amp beyond it's limits.

i vote quality speakers and a less expensive amp. i would suggest a used amp so you get a quality amp for much less.

With the idea that a Watt is a Watt, I know I'd be leaving a LOT of other factors out...

I'd agree, speakers are the first investment in quality sound.

I'm putting this idea to the test. I've commited to working with a manufacturer that is known for bargain prices, yet still has a good reputation. I've bought into two amplifiers both around $180(I've got one more expensive amplifier to go) that are about to be released, two slim subwoofers for $80 a piece, as well as a three way component set that hasn't been released that runs $200.

I fully intend to be seen in the IASCA competition lanes next year. I also fully intend to win as well. For me it's about the install and all the little tricks I can throw in.

I know if I can make great sound out of a little, you can too.

agreed. the installation of the speakers is #1. installation is more important than the actual components themselves as it has the largest effect on performance.

Not even close---speakers are by far the most important part of your system (after the install).

You don't want an amp that colors the sound, but if you get a bad speaker I don't care how good the amp is you are going to have a problem.

There are a large number of good amps out there that are not expensive.

The arguement can begin for after that level. When you get into some of the "elite" amps and whether or not they make a difference. I tend to think they do, but that is my opinion.

Think of it this way. Do you want a fast car with bald tires?
